open heart...peaceful mind
NEW TO YOGA?
Abhyassa, a Sanskrit term that means "practice", refers to applying steady consistent effort over a long period of time, aimed at achieving a peaceful state of mind.
WHAT TO KNOW AHEAD OF TIME
Yoga is not about how you look, it is about how you feel. And we want you to feel good, both on and off your yoga mat. We strongly recommend that you arrive at least 10 minutes early so you have time to sign in, change, and get settled. On your very first visit, plan to come a few minutes early to familiarize yourself with the studio and ask any questions you may have.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The benefits of yoga are experienced with consistent practice overtime. With each visit, you'll be learning to move your body in sync with your breath, gaining an inner awareness, and a sense of how you feel. You'll learn modifications available for each posture, as well as how props can be a great tool for steadiness and depth. This blending of your awareness of your external physical movements, combined with an inner awareness of how you feel within as you are moving, while listening to the rhythm of your breath, is how the mind begins to steady. With this, the seed of connection between breath, body, heart, and a peaceful mind is planted.
WHAT TO WEAR
Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move and stretch easily. Try to stay away from baggy clothes, as you may find youself upside down during class. Shoes and socks are left outside the practice area in a shoe bin.
WHAT TO BRING
A yoga mat and a small towel. Many people also bring a change of clothes and a bottled water. Yoga mats are available for rent and purchase at our studio. Thick padded, athletic mats are not recommended and are tricky for balance. We recommend instead using one of our folded blankets, or one of our small pads under the specific body part that requires cushion.
